Why is it easier and faster to find information in an electronic catalog than in a paper catalog?

In an electronic catalog, information can be linked in such a way that it is presented in a lucid and systematic manner. The user can navigate from one piece of essential information to a corresponding piece through links and hotspots.

For example, by clicking a link on an illustration, the user of an electronic catalog can be guided to the corresponding position in the parts list. This can be achieved through the illustration’s hotspots. When the user clicks on such a hotspot, its associated link is executed.

Because of their bi-directional functionality, links also allow viewing of parts in an illustration by clicking on entries within a parts list. Links are the core of a fast and effective system to gather information within electronic catalogs.
