Even today a lot of products are on the market that can not produce good quality CGM files. Unfortunately, this is not always visible at first glance. Apart from using the NIST test suite very often the last resort is Metacheck.

Metacheck is a syntax and compliance checker for CGM files. It runs on Windows and UNIX platforms as a command line tool. It has been developed by Peter Bono and Lofton Henderson. Metacheck will parse the CGM and write a report with lots of useful details in it.
