Data Exchange Formats

Adobe Illustrator™ - is a leading program for general graphics work on Macintosh and PC-compatible computers.


BMP - is the abbreviation for Bitmap format.


CALS - is the abbreviation for Continuous Acquisition and Lifecycle Support.


CGM - is the abbreviation for Computer Graphics Metafile.


DWG - is the file format of AutoCAD.


DXF - is the abbreviation for Drawing Exchange Format.


EPSF - is the abbreviation for Encapsulated PostScript File.


HPGL - is the abbreviation for Hewlett Packard Graphics Language.


The IGES Format - CAD systems offer various export formats for the data exchange with other programs. One of these is the IGES format.


Interleaf - is a widely used publishing system.


JPEG - is a raster format that is widely used on Internet pages.


JPG JPEG - A JPEG image comprises several million picture elements or pixels. A certain grayscale or color value is encoded for every pixel along with its exact position in the file.


JPEG for on-screen presentations and websites JPEG for on-screen presentations and websites - JPEG files exported from IsoDraw are automatically saved in RBG mode. This mode is ideally suited for on-screen presentations or websites. However, RGB is not suitable for the prepress stage in the printing process.


MIF - Maker Interchange Format, an alternative ASCII format associated with FrameMaker, is widely used in Technical Documentation.


OpenGL - OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is an API specification for 3D computer graphics. It is independent of any platform or programming language, and allows 3D scenes to be rendered in real time.


PCX - is a raster format that has been in use on Windows computers for a long time.


PICT - The PICTure format from Apple Macintosh is a format which is understood by virtually every program running on this platform.


PNG - is the abbreviation of Portable Network Graphic.


SVG - is the abbreviation for Scalable Vector Graphics.


TIFF - is the abbreviation for Tagged Image File Format.


TIFF TIFF - A TIFF image comprises several million picture elements or pixels. A certain grayscale or color value is encoded for every pixel along with its exact position in the file.


TIFF TIFF in the prepress stage - TIFF is one of the image formats that can be utilized in the prepress stage of the printing process. It contains a description of how separated images are saved.


TXT - Text excerpt is one of IsoDraw's own formats and therefore differs from the other formats that IsoDraw supports.


VRML - VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is a language for describing interactive 3-dimensional scenes. VRML is a platform-independent standard it is especially suitable for display on the Internet.


Wavefront - The Wavefront format was originally developed for the "Advanced Visualizer" software. It is used for describing objects in a realistic form for film and video.


WMF - is the abbreviation for Windows Meta File.


PostScript and PDF - The history of development - Postscript and PDF as standards
