Data Exchange Basics

Raster and vector graphics - When you are involved in the creation of graphics, you often have to decide whether to use a raster or a vector format. The following comparison between the two systems will give you some general information and help you to choose the appropriate format, according to your specific needs.

File, format and filter - The term file refers to the space on either a hard disk or floppy disk for storing information.

Import - What does "importing" a file actually mean?

Export - Exporting a file into another format is the opposite to importing a file.

Losses during transfer - Importing a file thus implies nothing more than a translation process.
