We already have an electronic catalog with raster graphics and overlays and cannot immediately switch our whole graphics archive to intelligent graphics.

Can we still benefit from the advantages of intelligent graphics in a step-by-step manner?

Yes, of course. When maintaining the raster graphics archive you can implement intelligent graphics step-by-step.

This situation is common in the entire industry. Many companies already have electronic catalogs in which raster graphics (e.g. in TIFF format) are used. Switching the existing catalog to new technologies usually takes some time. Therefore, there is an interim solution that allows you to benefit from the advantages of graphic objects in this environment as well.

The solution mainly is due to the fact that simultaneously:

  • Each graphic object generating overlays coordinates together with the object ID (=overlay ID) separately as a .txt file and
  • Each vector graphic is saved as a TIFF graphic, which then matches the other graphics in the existing electronic catalog's archive.

The links are then administered in the catalog system like before and with no change in the procedure. Despite such an interim solution, the long-time goal should be to switch to a catalog with object-oriented graphics.
