How does the automatic updating of hotspots and links with "intelligent" graphics work in contrast to using conventional methods on common illustrations in an electronic catalog?

Automatic updating of hotspots and links with "intelligent" graphics  is done via object IDs in contrast to revisions made on conventional overlays.

When an ID stays the same, the contents of the associated graphic file can be changed arbitrarily without having to change the links in an electronic catalog. Unfortunately, with conventional overlay hotspots this is different.

Since no graphic information is communicated, the overall structure of the catalog does not depend upon graphic changes when intelligent graphics are used. Let's suppose an object with the ID "123" is changed during a revision in terms of its contents and its position. The ID stays the same. Since a click on this object leads to the same result (namely transfer by the ID) neither the link nor the rest of the catalog are affected by this change. The update automation is based on the same principle.

In comparison to working with object IDs, overlays would have to be checked and corrected after such a revision. This effort is eliminated when intelligent graphics are used. Furthermore, you can now exclusively decide outside of the illustration which links are needed and how they are to be administered.
