The links should not be saved in illustration files.

The reason for this is that links are not always constant. Their targets may change depending on a graphic's use, since an illustration may be needed for more than one purpose. Therefore the illustration file should stay empty of links. If an illustration stays neutral it can be aimed at a new target environment when needed.
