TIFF in the prepress stage

TIFF is one of the image formats that can be utilized in the prepress stage of the printing process. It contains a description of how separated images are saved.

This can involve four or more color channels.
TIFF format is less suitable for on-screen presentations.

Der TIFF FarbraumTIFF color space
The TIFF color space contains four or more color channels. CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
CMYK colors are printing inks. Transparent inks are overprinted on each other.

The position of the screen and the overprinting of the inks leads to new color mixes on the paper. This is how offset printing presses and home printers work.

A TIFF image split into the 4 CMYK color channels

 Cyan  Magenta  Yellow Black
