Text excerpt is one of IsoDraw's own formats and therefore differs from the other formats that IsoDraw supports.
It is used for writing the contents of all the text elements in an IsoDraw illustration into an ASCII file. This can then be edited with any word processing program e.g. for translation purposes.
You can send the TXT files to your translator for the translation. The translator creates a copy of the file and translates all strings between the quotation marks with a simple text editor, such as Notepad or Simpletext. When using a Unicode font, even East-European or Asian characters will not cause any problems. A text excerpt of a graphics file looks as follows:
%ITEDO IsoDraw Text %Title: Sample.iso 0000024004 "Part 1" 0000024004 "Part 2" 0000024004 "Part 3" 0000024004 "Part 4"
This feature provides you with the option of creating an IsoDraw file with several language layers from a monolingual file. The translations of the extracted texts are read into additional layers. If needed, these files can be faded in and out. By changing the various export settings of the layers, you can thus export several language variants from one file.
An additional benefit of the text excerpt is the availability of all texts in a graphics file in one single list. This secures that no piece of text is overlooked during translation. Also quantity operations like "Find & Replace" are an option for the user.
