The PICTure format from Apple Macintosh is a format which is understood by virtually every program running on this platform.

It is used first and foremost if an illustration is only to be presented on the screen, e.g. in a presentation or an electronic catalog. A PostScript file delivers far better results in print.

The PICT format is also used for saving scanned images, e.g. photos.
