The cavalier projection shows a front view. The edges representing the depth are drawn at a 45° angle and shortened by 50%.

The projection is no longer in use. To make technology understandable, technical illustrations are nowadays drawn using isometric and dimetric projections and even vanishing-point perspectives. 

These are more up-to-date and give a better impression of the object by virtue of the way they are drawn.
