Important Notice for all IsoView Customers

Today we are providing you with information regarding the Microsoft Internet Explorer ActiveX Update. This update concerns all customers who embed IsoView in HTML pages.

Background
Microsoft is expected to release an update on April 11, 2006 which will essentially affect the handling of all ActiveX Controls. If an ActiveX Control is embedded into an HTML page utilizing the tags APPLET, EMBED, OBJECT as is usual, the mentioned update will now require an additional activation click. This means that the graphic will be displayed, but stay inactive until the user has clicked on it. This behavior is not typical of IsoView, but concerns all ActiveX controls such as SVG and Flash viewers.

Further information is available on the Microsoft website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/ieupdate/

At the same time, Microsoft will provide an additional update which allows to deactivate the first update until June 2006 as an option. After this, however, the ActiveX Update will remain activated permanently.

Effects on IsoView Applications
If IsoView has been embedded into an HTML page via one of the mentioned tags, no interactive behavior will be active at first. This includes the display of object tips, hotspot clicks as well as all kinds of reactions resulting from mouse over actions that have been programmed. If the user then clicks on the graphic once, these functions will be activated. After this, the behavior will be the same as before the update.

Avoiding the Activation Click
Microsoft provides a recommendation of how to program HTML pages in order to avoid the activation click. We recommend to change the HTML pages, if possible, and have uploaded an example for this on our Portal (see ZIP file for download below) .

Conclusion
The update that has been announced by Microsoft essentially affects many ActiveX Controls and the vendors of these ActiveX Control have little or no influence on these effects. Among these ActiveX Controls is IsoView. Microsoft only suggests one alternative to work around this update. We can only recommend you to follow this way. The changes in the behavior of IsoView as well as of other viewers do not reflect a program error. They have deliberately been enforced by Microsoft for patent reasons.
