The new postgraduate course "Master of Advanced Studies in Technical Communication" will start in October 2002 at the Donau University in Krems (Austria). The extra occupational course is aimed at the acquisition of theoretic and practical knowledge for various professional profiles in the field of technical communication.
Topics:
- Operational procedures in Technical Documentation: document management, systematic development and creation of documentation, project management, quality management, business management, Technical Documentation as Marketing tool, etc.
- Professional text production (research, conception, understandable wording, illustration, editing), creation of multi-language technical documentations, translation, terminology management, intercultural special communication
- Layout and graphic design, visualization techniques, user ergonomics, psychological and didactic basics, addressee orientation, comprehensibility, information design, testing and optimization of the documentation
- Computer applications (authoring systems; text-, graphic and DTP systems, multimedia and hypertext systems, online documentation, software documentation, telematics applications such as the Internet, etc.); technical production of documentation
All topics are geared toward international (especially European) requirements and demands. All topics of the course will involve hands-on trainings in accordance with the respective participant's main focus and will be integrated into his or her personal job practice. Depending on the participant's existing knowledge, the intensity of computer training can be aligned accordingly.
Degree: There are two possible degrees:
- After successfully completing the first two semesters the participant will receive a graduation certificate.
- After successfully completing an additional third semester, the student will be awarded the title "Master of Advanced Studies in Technical Communication" (MAS).
Admission requirements: professional experience in a technical or communication-related job or a university degree.
